Launched in October 2012 (UK October 2014), Cointreau Noir was inspired by Majestic, a spirit originally created by Édouard Cointreau in the 1900s. About the brand

Established in 1849, Cointreau produces their renowned liqueur from the finest oranges from around the world. Often considered a Triple Sec, Cointreau is an orange liqueur in a league of it's own. Unlike triple sec; which refers to any orange flavored spirit, an orange liqueur is an officially recognized spirit category with certain legal production and quality requirements to be considered a liqueur.
