The Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
The Glenkinchie Distillers Edition is a limited edition single malt Scotch whisky double matured in a secondary cask, enhancing the depth and complexity of the regular release. Released as part of Diageo's Distillers Edition, an annual limited edition release showcasing Diageo's flagship single malts, double-matured in different types of casks, adding greater depth and complexity to the original character of the whisky. This excellent Glenkinchie whisky has been firstly matured in Refill American and European Oak casks before a secondary maturation in elegant Amontillado Seasoned American Oak Casks to complement the whisky’s sophisticated balance between sweet and dry, revealing a fascinating, crisp and fuller-bodied character of Glenkinchie. Bottled at 43% ABV (86-proof), the nose is balanced between the drier notes from the wine and sweeter, nutty notes of barley and cask wood. The palate is lightly oily, and sweetly malty in taste to start, then soon spicy, with rich dried fruit hints of raisin and date. Creamy-smooth, the lightly grapey sweetness is crisply balanced by warming wood-spice as it dries from mid-palate on.

About the brand
Glenkinchie lies, as the name might suggest, in a glen of the Kinchie Burn near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. It is situated about 15 miles from Edinburgh. The distillery is set in farmland. The name 'Kinchie' is a corruption of 'De Quincy', the original owners of the land. Its origins date back to around 1825 when it was founded by brothers John and George Rate, While there are no direct records it seems likely that Glenkinchie is the Milton Distillery previous recorded in the area. The brothers probably renamed it in about 1837. In 1853, the Rate Brothers were bankrupted and the site converted to a sawmill. In 1881, the plant was rebuilt and whisky-making restarted under Maj. James Grey. In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky. The Glenkinchie label was relatively little known until 1989, when United Distillers started marketing it under their Classic Malts brand.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Firmer, drier notes from soft vanilla to crisp grape. Sweeter, nuttier tones come from the malted barley and cask wood.
Taste
Dry, after early biscuit-sweetness. Enormous malt character contrasts with the fruitiness of the grape.
Finish
Very long, dry, oaky. Very faint peppery notes add spice, softened by very late caramel.
