Triple Wood Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
The Laphroaig Triple Wood Single Malt is developed using a triple maturation process. Using 3 types of cask, the first in American oak, ex-Bourbon Barrels, then small 19th Century style Quarter Casks for a second maturation. The final part of the maturation process is completed in specially selected, large European oak, Oloroso Sherry Casks, creating a 48% ABV non-chill filtered spirit packed with deep textures and full bodied tastes.

About the brand
Laphroaig is a highly-acclaimed brand of premium Islay single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Larphoraig Distillery, founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The brand has changed hands multiple times over the years beginning in the 1960s until it was purchased by Beam Suntory of Suntory Holdings in 2014. Laphroaig is recognized as producing some of the most deeply flavored Scotch whiskies on the market and is the only whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, awarded in 1994. The brand offers a range of products including several very rare and expensive expressions such as their discontinued 18 year old iteration (last offered in 2015). Notably, Laphroaig is unlike many other blended Scotch makers in that it malts its own barley. The barley is finished in special kilns with over 205 years of seasoning – leaving a truly defining note that Laphroaig fans have come to know and crave.

A gentler rendition of Laphroaig... A decent first involvement in Islay peat

Second tasting served perfect in a Glencairn from an about full jug. Nose and sense of taste are as an I recollect with some blackberry that I don't remember. Mouth-feel is certainly as slight as I recall however enhances are increasingly durable and even. Finish is on the short side be t it's acceptable while it keeps going. While it is certainly no Uigeadail it remains on its own very well. I would contrast it with a school hookup. The excursion doesn't keep going long and there is little substance however it's a pleasant ride that makes the end of the week agreeable if forgettable.

In the wake of having two tremendous measures to begin the night I proceeded onward to one of Laphroaig's ordinary arrangement articulations and one of only a handful not many that I haven't attempted previously. Sadly maybe on account of sense of taste fatigue or simply in light of the fact that I've just made sense of my top choices in the refinery's setup Triple Wood didn't hit the best harmonies with me. The nose is a dry woody smoke with less restorative flavor and saline solution than I anticipated. Maple syrup also which is an odd flavor to discover in a Laphroaig. The sense of taste likewise stars that maple syrup flavor practically more so than the refinery's smoke and peat signature. This scotch is excessively sweet for my preferences particularly when preparing for a flavorful briny Islay smoke bomb. The completion starts a lot of like the nose with dry wood smoke and afterward advances into nectar broiled nut notes. This minor departure from Laphroaig would be valued by aficionados of Speyside scotches and at $70 or something like that is decently estimated. Be that as it may on the off chance that I saw a rack of Laphroaigs this would not be one of the initial ones that I'd pluck off the rack.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Molasses and oily toffee. Dates, walnuts, notes from the Maker’s Mark barrels (vanilla, toastiness, sweetness etc). We got oodles of butter, zest, cool wood smoke, almond, and passion fruit.
Taste
Dry and medicinal, with exotic spices, perhaps even some turmeric. The palate is surprisingly savoury at first, with what John described as “dry dampness” (taste and it’ll make sense!) - think musty wood sheds and hints of moist autumnal forest floor. The sherry notes are there too, but rather than being the big Christmas pudding flavour one often expects from Oloroso-aged whisky, we are instead treated to a much more restrained iced fruitcake, graced with hints of Laphroaig’s classic smoke.
Finish
Oaked. The mustiness carries into the finish, which lasts for a good while, with oily spices and dried fruit.
