Auriverdes Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml
A special edition launched on Ardbeg Day 2014 - a day celebrated both at the Islay festival and around the world, Ardbeg Auriverdes Single Malt was named for the gold and green livery of Ardbeg's bottlings as well as the colours of the Brazilian flag, home of the 2014 World Cup. With the whisky drawn from bourbon casks, the toasted ends give the traditional Ardbeg taste a fresh dimension and absolutely beautiful result.

Its time for an uncommon 2014 Feis Ile celebration test from Ardbeg: Auriverdes. This discharge was intended to respect the 2014 Mens FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The shades of the Brazilian banner are green and gold and thats how this whisky is named. Auri (gold) and verdes (green) additionally tie-in to the brilliant shade of the whisky and the famous green container. The main thing done to the whisky itself is that the end tops of the containers were toasted to confer a more burned flavor into the NAS whisky. Its packaged at 49.9% ABV and is NCF with no additional colorant. Its a profound brilliant yellow in the glass with slim vague legs and minuscule beads. The nose is fundamentally smoked brisket oak spirals and fire pit smoke. The optional flavors are marginally minty eucalyptus leaves and some lemon get-up-and-go thats generally connected with Ardbeg. They arent rehashing an already solved problem with this discharge by any means. The sense of taste is both pit fire smoke and gritty peat and theres a black out sherry pleasantness and vanilla note showing up at mid taste. The energetic soul controls the backend while being sleek and warming. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side and turns dry towards the completion. Talking about completion its medium length with an extremely light pleasantness and smoke. Hearty minerals wait and turn the last bits a touch severe and cruel. It doesnt turn the experience terrible however it additionally doesnt help matters either. As a celebration discharge I was somewhat baffled. There no genuine experimentation going on here. Jugs have everything except vanished from store racks and youll need to make a beeline for a closeout site to discover one at this point. Costs have stayed consistent with this one-$80-100 a container should win you one yet Im not certain its worth that cost sincerely. Stick with the 10yo or the An Oa for $20-30 less. On account of my mate @Telex from Maryland for this example pour. I have a few jugs of this as Ive set up a couple Ardbeg Feis Ile sets however I see no motivation to open them. They are tolerably collectible so thats how Ill keep them. 3.5-3.75 stars. Good wishes.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Smoked bacon, Tarry ropes on a not-long-dry seashore. Loads of Vanilla. Pomegranates, Fizzy-sweets (refreshers, Sherbet Lemons) and Lemon-zest. Not convinced I’d have got Mocha, if not for the autosuggestion, but it’s definitely there now I think about it.
Taste
Initially sweet, restrained, more of that bacon, but this time it’s been cured with Muscovado sugar and maybe a touch of Juniper? Progresses through the inevitable onslaught of peat, but it’s there in a slightly different way – more ‘high’, medicinal phenols than we've come to expect with Ardbeg.
Finish
Long. Cocoa, Charred corners of a pulled pork butt, becomes more ashy as it fades, but clearly from good honest casks albeit with charred heads.
