A product of the most extensive bourbon project ever undertaken, with theaim of comparing the impact of the 7 different critical variables, Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the result of a process involving the selection of 96 individually selected oak trees, each cut into top and bottom sections, made into barrels from each unique section and then charred differently. The barrels were then filled with differing whiskeys and aged in a range of warehouse styles. What has emerged is a range of bourbons, each with a unique flavor. Buffalo Trace encourages drinkers to rate each bottle they taste and give feedback, allowing for an outright winner. This could be any rack bourbon, but it’s classy and refined — a darker, woodier, coal-fired, more cigars-in-the-back-room bourbon than most of the comparably fruity expressions you get in the SOP.
