As further testament to this, Breuckelen offers up their Brownstone 6 year old malt to our fervent delight! Limited to a production run of 1000 bottles and aged for 6 years in American Standard charred new oak barrels, this rich malt whiskey offers an aroma rife with molasses and cinnamon over crushed fennel seeds and hints of golden raisins. The Brownstone opens with bold cinnamon, cherry, and Earl Gray tea – very distinct. Then, whamo! the entire spice-rack in the mouth: fennel, nutmeg, star anise, brine, red pepper, licorice, brown sugar, molasses, more cinnamon, honey, candied orange. It has an oily full mouthfeel and clingy legs that carry the spice-rack through a medium-long finish, drying the mouth – further concentrating flavors and begging for another sip. You would think these bold flavors would saturate the palate, but I find myself refilling the glass, wanting more. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
