Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition Bourbon is the distiller's second limited release in 2022, with just 25,000 bottles of this 100-proof straight bourbon whiskey made available worldwide. The Takumi edition, which translates to 'expert', is a complex blend of 4, 5, 6, and 13 year old bourbon whiskeys with a Japanese approach made in collaboration with Yahisa Yusuke, master blender at Nagahama Distillery in Shiba, Japan. Expect a traditional bourbon profile with the laser-focus of Japanese blended precision, creating artful balance across notes of caramel, oak, tobacco and cinnamon, before sweet citrus, buttery cream, dry leather and apple pie emerge, culminating in punchy, spicy, slightly savory finish.…

About the brand

Formed in the late 19th century and closed for over a century due to the start of Prohibition, Kentucky Owl's story is a rather unusual one. Not many bourbon distilleries are resurrected after such a long hiatus, but Kentucky Owl rose from the ashes in 2010 and has been producing some of the finest, most full-bodied bourbon whiskeys this decade. Increasingly popular and with newfound cult status, the future is bright for this budding historical brand.

Tasting Notes

Nose

A savory mix of light rye bread with sweet caramel richness with a hint of tangy fruit salad that tickles the nostrils and pleasantly teases the palate, begging for a taste of the liquid.

Taste

Initial wave of buttery rye bread provides a full-bodied taste and feel from the start. Across the tongue the savory mix of rye and caramel combine into a cinnamon and caramel sauce to bring out some fruitiness, mostly apple and pear.

Finish

A flavorful, pleasant, and lasting finish.
