This special pairing showcases Woodford's expertise in barrel finishing and flavor development. The Double Oaked begins with Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select (72% corn, 18% rye, 10% malted barley), aged a minimum of 6 years in new American white oak before finishing in deeply-toasted secondary virgin oak casks for just under a year. Its companion, the newly mainlined Double Double Oaked at 90.4-proof, takes this concept further with an extended maturation up to two years in a second custom-toasted barrel.

The Double Oaked delivers aromatic notes of oak, vanilla-marshmallow cream, and toast, with a palate showcasing caramel, vanilla, leather, and charred wood. The Double Double Oaked amplifies these characteristics through its extended second-barrel finish, creating deeper, more pronounced flavor intensity while maintaining remarkable balance.

It’s really interesting to see the difference that exposure to another new virgin barrel that’s toasted and charred differently than the first barrel used in it’s aging can do to a bourbon.
