Created to commemorate David Stewart's remarkable 50-year tenure at the distillery, this 43% ABV (86 proof) expression builds upon the foundation established by the popular 12-Year DoubleWood. Following initial aging in traditional American oak ex-bourbon casks, the whisky undergoes a finishing period in European oak ex-sherry casks, creating the signature "double wood" maturation process that Balvenie pioneered. This careful transfer between cask types allows the spirit to develop additional layers of flavor while maintaining the distillery's characteristic Speyside profile.
