Jim Murray got it right when he named this 2011 edition of Thomas H. Handy Sazerac straight rye the ‘Whiskey of the Year’ 2011. This beautifully crafted whiskey is part of the limited edition Antique Collection from Buffalo Trace Distillery and was originally distilled in Spring 2005 and released in Fall 2011. Finished to a notable 128.6 proof, this rye is composed of Minnesota rye, N. Dakota malted barley, and distiller grade #1/#2 Kentucky corn and aged for 6 years and 5 months. Matured in 41 expertly selected new white oak #4 char barrels, 2011 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac rye has a smoke-filled aroma hued with vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom.
