1263 King Alexander III Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
In 1839, Alexander Matheson sought the perfect location for his new distillery. With his only criteria as finding the best natural resources to make the finest whisky, he settled on an isolated area on the banks of the Cromarty Firth. And so, The Dalmore was born. Uniquely using irregular shaped stills, Dalmore believes that they produce a stronger and more complex character to their whiskies. Their spirits are charactered with deep copper colour and flavours of crushed almonds, cinnamon, ginger and citrus. The Dalmore 1263 King Alexander III Single Malt was created to celebrate the bravery of the Mackenzie Clan in saving the Monarch's life and the subsequent 12 pointed Royal Stag emblem he gifted them. With rich fruity flavours and a woody finish, the King would have been proud to receive such a delicious honour.

About the brand
Established in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, Dalmore is a brand of acclaimed highland single malt Scotch produced by the renowned Dalmore Distillery in Scotland. The brand was family run until 1960 when one of its primary customer’s, Whyte & Mackay, took control of the company. At the time, Dalmore mainly consisted of a 12 year old iteration - however the brand has since expanded its range to include 15, 18, and 25 year old single malts, as well as a variety of specialty NAS releases. Dalmore’s rare selections include such offerings as the rare Dalmore’s King Alexander III; a unique wood finished bottling matured in 6 hand-selected wine and port casks. Another select edition, Dalmore Trinitas, was first released in 2010 and yielded a mere three bottles – selling for a reported $100,000 - $120,000 each. The brand was purchased by Philippines-based Emperador Inc in 2014 and continues their legacy of highly-collectible single malt whiskey today.

After a touch of exploration I immediately understood this isnt named after the Greek winner Alexander the Incomparable. I generally thought about what Alexander potentially shared for all intents and purpose with whisky. His victories were from Greece to cutting edge Pakistan. Nothing to do with Scotland. Rather causing me a deep sense of embarrassment this was named after Lord Alexander III who gave the McKenzie group a 12 point stag as the faction seal after their family head spared his butt from a charging stag. Ages later in mid1800s a descendent of that family chief built up the Dalmore refinery and had the 12 point stag as the token. Charming backstory. In any case lets arrive at the point that truly matters: this whisky charitably given as an example by my amigo @LeeEvolved. More examination additionally uncovers that theres actually some container completing gone extra time here. Typically you get a couple of completions. Actually no not this one...its 6 completions ! Completed in Kentucky whiskey barrels Jerez Oloroso Sicilian Marsala Douro valley port Cabernet savignon ( possibly France?) and Madeira ( from...guess where? Madeira!). In spite of that its just 40% ABV Im getting this gnawing heat on the button. It actually needs to sit a piece and quiet down. When it does you get a blend of aromasâ€- from berries to caramel to botanical. Palette is a stage downâ€"was truly trusting that it would satisfy that nose. Getting more Christmas kinds of nutmeg and oranges. Wouldnt be a Dalmore if there were no oranges. Fabulous trial in containers completing that does some incredible things for the nose however self-destructs at the palette. Much obliged Lee for the pour!"
