Greenbar Distillery Slow Hand Six Woods Malt Whisky 750ml Bottle

Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) back to the city of Angles in California, to the Greenbar distillery, for their Slow Hand Six Woods – yes, aged with 6 woods. This is the tempered version of the cask strength dram I’ve enjoyed previously. Like the cask-strength dram, it opens with a power-punch of flavors including blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, and smoky dark chocolate, followed by apricot jam, toffee, cinnamon, and black pepper – a level of flavor that is typically only present in a cask-strength dram, but this is only 42% ABV – wow! As the crescendo of flavors begins to subside, vanilla, ginger, and cocoa make an appearance, along with ever-present black pepper. The oily mouthfeel and thick clingy legs deliver a long savory finish that showcases the woods, with the grape wood bringing a bitterness that prevents the dram from becoming overly sweet. If you’re after a comforting, boring, simple dram, this is not for you. If you’re looking for a cornucopia of bold flavors, this is your dram. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
