Cutter Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
Released in 2014, AnCnoc Cutter is the peatiest whisky from the brand to date. Named after the hand tool used to cut peat from drier, shallower bogs, this is peated to 20.5ppm. Not just another drop in the ocean this - they've been busy brewing (and then distilling) alternatives in the form of peated spirit at Knockdhu for a number of years now, with the latest release being the Cutter - their most heavily peated expression to date (until another hurdle approaches). The phenol content is 20.5 PPM in the bottle and maturation took place in ex-bourbon casks. As with their other peaty releases, it is named after a peat harvesting tool, in this case the Cutter, which is used to cut peat from shallower, drier bogs. The drier peat is easily burnt, producing a whisky with plenty of smoke.

About the brand
anCnoc is a rather curious whisky. You see, this fine single malt is created using traditional production methods. It's just that we use them to make a refreshingly modern whisky (something that's reflected in our contemporary bottle design and packaging today). The end result is a lighter-tasting single malt that doesn't compromise on quality. Explore anCnoc's refreshing range of single malt scotch whisky, specially crafted in our Knockdhu Distillery. Whether you're looking for a perfectly aged whisky or something with a peaty taste, browse our selection. John Morrison saw a golden vision of the future as the pure crystal spring water rushed from the Black Hill through the Highland peatlands. A dreamer and visionary, he saw a clear opportunity to turn this gift from nature into something to be treasured. Our small distillery was established in 1894 and through the years its production methods have hardly changed. History, heritage, pride and passion run through Knockdhu’s majestic stills today, just as they did all those years ago to create a thoroughly modern, yet traditional spirit proudly named after its Black Hill origins, anCnoc. Discover more about our distillery here. 125 years later, that picture of the past is still present, thanks to John Morrison’s pioneering spirit. At the time of our establishment in 1894, we were considered the perfect embodiment of a modern distillery. We still live and work by that traditional approach while embracing the changing times of the present to bring you two new releases: anCnoc 16 Years Old and Peat in celebration of Knockdhu’s 125th anniversary and our modern tradition.

Sweat and peat! Wonderfully sweet on the sense of taste with traces of good country smoke. Warm completion that stays around for a piece. Worth buying!

A few months prior I attempted my first Ancnoc the Flaughter. Albeit to some degree two-dimensional (peat and sweet) it was even and agreeable. I was anticipating the Shaper in light of the fact that the peat is turned up a piece. Tragically neither the additional peat nor the measure in general worked for me. While the peat isn't actually gone up to 11 it in any case has the impact of overpowering all else. What's left under the peat is a non-descript blend of flavor from which I can't choose a lot of anything. Furthermore where the peat in the Flaughter is very wonderful the Shaper's peat is to a greater degree an unpleasant debris. The Flaughter is a decent bourbon yet I don't know who the Shaper's body electorate is. In the event that you like parity subtlety and multifaceted nature it's not for you. Also for peat sweethearts there are undeniably increasingly pleasant and intriguing choices accessible.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Wafts of iodine, ash and smoke, joined by toffee-dipped peaches and cake-y vanilla sweetness.
Taste
A whisky of three halves (that works, right?): you've got the sooty, smoky peat, you've got bundles of apple, peach and orange, and then you've got plenty of creamy vanilla. It's all balanced and blends together well.
Finish
Long and oily with smokiness simmering to the end.
