Temporis Peated 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
Launched in mid-2018, BenRiach's Temporis is a 21 year old peated single malt which has been matured in a quartet of cask types - bourbon barrels, virgin oak casks, Oloroso casks and Pedro Ximénez casks. The result is an intense, unique expression from BenRiach, packing a full-bodied flavour profile. This peated 21 year old from BenRiach has been crafted from whisky matured in four different types of cask – virgin oak casks, bourbon barrels, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and Oloroso sherry casks. Taking its name from the Latin for 'time', Temporis pays tribute to the peated style of whisky that was produced in Speyside during the 19th century.

About the brand
During this time, however, Benriach's floor maltings continued to operate, providing malt for sister distillery Longmorn. In the 1960s the distillery was bought and completely refurbished by Glenlivet, re-opening for distillation in 1965. Glenlivet was bought by Chivas Brothers in 1978, with the company's parent Seagram deciding to produce peated malt for their blends at Benriach from 1983 (production today is around 10% peated malt)and expanding capacity with the addition of two new stills in 1985. In 1994, almost 100 years after opening, the first official bottling of Benriach as a single malt (a fairly nondescript 10 year-old) was released. The floor-maltings were mothballed in 1999 after more than a century of continuous operation, but remain in good condition and are now being prepared for reopening. Seagram became part of Pernod Ricard in 2001, and the new owners cut production at Benriach to three months a year, before mothballing the distillery in 2002. Finally, in 2004, Pernod sold the Benriach distillery to an independent consortium led by Billy Walker, a former director of Burn Stewart. Production recommenced almost immediately and the lacklustre 10yo was discontinued and replaced by what has become one of the most exciting and dynamic ranges in the industry. Led by a feisty 12 year-old and a critically acclaimed 16 yo, Benriach's new owners have continued to exploit the superb spirit created by this previously unsung distillery, with a string of aged or limited releases of remarkably vibrant single malts. Crucially, the new owners have been able to take advantage of the peated spirit made at the distillery in the previous 25 years - at a time when peaty malts have become hugely popular. In just five years, Benriach has gone from a forgotten footnote, one of many neglected distilleries in the portfolios of big companies, to one of the most exciting single malts around. This was capped by the distillery winning the accolade of Distillery of the Year from Malt Advocate magazine in 2007. Such has been the spectacular trajectory of Benriach that parent company Intra Trading has recently bought another well-respected distillery fallen on hard times - Glendronach. All single malt fans will be wishing them well in their efforts to pull off a similar revival there - and after the remarkable success accomplished with Benriach, few would bet against them.

Five jugs of BenRiach and three of GlenDronach were arranged for an epic tasting occasion on Wednesday night their normal age more than 21 years. While there wasnt an awful container among them my reasonable most loved among the BenRiachs was this 21-year-old one of two peated whiskies that we inspected. The BenRiach 10 Curiositas its entrance level peated offering was the main whisky Id tasted already from the refinery and I thought that it was lovely if unremarkable. The 21 is in an alternate association. The peat has an extraordinary minty quality to the nose that delights with its newness. On the off chance that you could bottle the kind of a new ocean breeze this is the thing that it would pose a flavor like: refreshingly fresh salty and a touch sweet. The minty peat returns on the long complete the process of twirling in the current of the breeze. Like the greater part of the BenRiachs we attempted this one is a mix of four distinct barrels a mark of ace blender Rachel Barrie. I left away colossally dazzled by the ability with which she adjusts the flavors and brimming with appreciation for a refinery cutting an alternate way in the midst of an ocean of ex-whiskey developed whiskies or wine-container hotshots. I would like to come back to Temporis consistently.

The virgin oak impact is solid with this one"...DV. Minty peat as RMD demonstrated. I'm with LE on this one. Pleasant drop however it'd have been acceptable to see different barrels which I likewise think have been topped off to most extreme limit take a front seat. I do battle with anything '....mint' too. Benriach peat + extraordinary barrel finish is frequently stunning.. this is acceptable yet not at that level. I'd rate the 22 yr Moscatel 18 yr Albarize single container port endeavors well ahead. Begun at 4.25 however that spearmint/peppermint is actually somewhat overwhelming marginally fake and disturbing me. Generally it's in whiskeys I experience it yet given it's first fill virgin oak substantial it bodes well. 3.5 it winds up at and on the off chance that I had a jug I'd have an inclination it'd fall lower as I'd get genuine tired of it. Fascinating I do see a considerable amount of change in the tasting note depictions as well...personal taste buds or groups mixed in an unexpected way? In the event that you love minty peat and you have a similar cluster as this you'll be in love..if not...."
