The Glenmorangie Bacalta Scotch Whisky is the eighth release in Glenmorangie's annual Private Edition series. Finished in casks that were seasoned with Malmsey Madeira, this is rich and fruity with notes of caramelized apricots, dates, almonds, and honeycomb. Bacalta is the first expression from the distillery which has been finished in sun-baked Malmsey Madeira casks. Dr. Bill Lumsden commissioned to have bespoke American oak casks crafted and heavily toasted, then seasoned with premium Malmsey wine - after which, they were left to bake in the heat of Madeira's sun. The casks were emptied and shipped to Scotland and used to finish this premium Glenmorangie whisky, a distillate that was first matured in ex-bourbon barrels. About the brand

Produced by the Glenmorangie Distillery of Tain Ross-shire Scotland - known for having the tallest stills in the country, Glenmorangie is a renowned brand of single malt Scotch first released in 1987. The Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 by William Matheson, a former distillery manager, who later sold the facility to a family firm in Leith called Macdonald and Muir in 1918. The internationally acclaimed beverage manufacturer, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, purchased Glenmorangie in 2004 and rebranded the entire line with a focus on luxury merchandising and overseas marketing. Tasting Notes

Nose

Succulent apricots ripened in Madeira’s island sun emerge from fragrant, honeyed aromas. A curiously flinty note gives way to beguiling hints of white chocolate.

Taste

Complex layers of honeycomb follow an initial burst of mint toffee. Almonds come forth to mingle with dates, caramelised oranges and more apricots.

Finish

Creamy fudge emerges in the long, syrupy aftertaste, alongside caramelised citrus and pears. All are played out against an intriguing mentholic backdrop.
