Featuring Old Elk's signature mash bill of 51% corn, 34% malted barley, and 15% rye - Old Elk Port Cask Finish has matured for at least 5 years and then finished for an estimated ten months in premium ex-Port 59-gallon casks imported from Portugal. Bottled at a generous 54.05%ABV (108.1-proof), the combination of the Port finish with Old Elk's high-malt mash bill creates a remarkably unique bourbon with a taste of deep, richly ripened fruit and an aroma of oak smothered in honey. Overall I think is my favorite of the Old Elk Cask Finish Series. The Port influence is really nice, and works well with the base spirit. A whiskey and wine combination isn’t new, but I’d say that this expression works in unique ways and is well worth a try if you’re looking for a new spin on bourbon.
