Atelier Vie Single Malt Whiskey 750ml Bottle

Tonight’s dram takes me to Naw-lens, more commonly know as New Orleans, Louisiana, where, in the midst of all the sugar-cane rum, they distill a single malt barley dram. It opens with brown sugar, plumbs, grapefruit zest, and a whif of smoke, followed by cocoa powder, rye bread, and white pepper, rounding-out the palate with stewed fruits and light molasses. The light-oily mouthfeel and heavy super-clingy legs deliver a nice long finish of stewed fruits, molasses, creamy milk chocolate, and a touch of light smoke. Strangely, in a land of sugar cane and rum, this 100% barley malt that was finished in bourbon and rye casks somehow takes-on a bit of a dark rum flavor profile – quite pleasant, but not what you expect from a Scotch-style single malt barley dram. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
