Westland Garryana Edition 8 American Single Malt Whiskey is the 8th edition in this annually released series from Seattle's Westland distillery. Featuring a blended aging methodology that includes rare Quercus Garryana, an oak indigenous to the region - the Westland Garryana collection expresses the provenance of the Pacific Northwest. Introduced as a part of Westland's Outpost Range, Westland Garryana Edition 8 builds on the foundations of its seven sibling releases, enhancing the lessons learned (and tasted!) throughout the series. Composed of a 6-grain malted barley mash bill - this masterfully crafted iteration has matured in a marriage of four select casks; 48% Pedro Ximenez butts, 38% new Garryana oak, 12% Washington State ex-red wine, and 5% first-fill ex-bourbon. Released in an outrun of just 7,380 bottles, Westland Garryana Edition 8 explores aromas of rich leather and buttery grains over a palate of chocolate, sherry, and almond-berry pastries.…

About the brand

Westland Distillery began as an idea between two whiskey enthusiasts - Matt Hofmann and Emerson Lamb. They set out in 2010 to create their interpretation of a select American single malt whisky. From there, the distillery grew to become one of Seattle's finest distilleries, winning worldwide acclaim, and was named Whiskey of the Year in 2015 by the American Distilling Institute. Purchased by Remy-Cointreau in 2017 - Westland has continued its journey of success, moving even further into the spotlight. Matt Hofmann retains the role of co-founder and Master Distiller, producing innovative new releases spawning from exacting methods, traditional and exploratory aging, and the highest quality of ingredients. The brand offers various iterations ranging from their original Westland American Single Malt, American Oak American Single Malt, Sherry Wood American Single Malt, and a rare and exceptionally finished Garryana Edition whiskey finished in local Garryana coastal wood - part of the novel Outpost Range collection. Aroma is beautifully sweet, complex and thick, maple syrup but with a tang of something else. Red wine sweetness is there for sure. It's a rush of flavor on the tongue, matching the aroma well. Smoky with tannin bitterness underneath the sweet wave, quite rich, tingly tail that's a little peppery. Almost perfection, just like always from Westland. Wonderful.
