Finealta Private Edition Single Malt is the second in Glenmorangie's series of Private Editions. It sparked interest for the reason that some lightly peated barley was been used in its creation - inspired by a recently discovered 1903 order for Glenmorangie from the Savoy hotel. With its name meaning 'Elegance' in Gaelic it says here, this spirit, matured in ex-sherry and plain new American oak casks brings a lively blend of peat notes and much character from the sherry casks in which it was finished. …

About the brand

Produced by the Glenmorangie Distillery of Tain Ross-shire Scotland - known for having the tallest stills in the country, Glenmorangie is a renowned brand of single malt Scotch first released in 1987. The Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 by William Matheson, a former distillery manager, who later sold the facility to a family firm in Leith called Macdonald and Muir in 1918. The internationally acclaimed beverage manufacturer, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, purchased Glenmorangie in 2004 and rebranded the entire line with a focus on luxury merchandising and overseas marketing. I lost my notes on this which I attempted some time prior however it left a particular enough impression to justify recording what has remained with me. The general thought that Dr. Lumsden and the group at Glenmorangie sought after here was reproducing a turn-of-the-century style malt...and I do need to state in the event that they succeeded at that point I am somewhat jealous of those living in 1903. The new delicately fruity and sugary refinery trademark is safeguarded yet it has a more prominent feeling of substance here just as stunning harvest time woodsy notes and a removed sweet hardwood open air fire. I would drink this again happily...and I'm not generally the greatest Glenmorangie team promoter.
