The fifth entry in The Macallan's prestigious "Distil Your World" series, the Paris edition is a love letter to the City of Light, and one of the most ambitious, culinarily-inspired Scotch releases in recent memory.
Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell collaborated with the Roca brothers — proprietors of three-Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca, to capture the essence of Paris through both whisky and haute cuisine. The result is a masterfully layered marriage of sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, ex-bourbon casks, and the star of the show: rare Cognac oak casks that lend a distinctly Parisian character unlike anything in The Macallan's standard lineup. Inspiration was drawn from every corner of the city, French crockery, cookware, patisserie, and the intoxicating aromas of Parisian street markets, all of which informed the cask selection and final blend. The whisky's rich amber hue was specifically designed to evoke a Parisian sunrise viewed from Montmartre, and the bottle itself is housed in a crisp white box featuring inner artwork by Paris-based artist Cassandre Montoriol, with a sculptural city map charting Campbell's travels across the city. On the nose, sandalwood and almond croissant give way to creamy sweetness and tropical fruit; the palate delivers delicate brioche, toasted oak, and gentle spice, with a warm, lingering oak finish that ties it all together beautifully.
